Incident in the Assembly
Today is the third and final day of the monsoon session in the Gujarat Assembly. The session began with Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi addressing the issue of drugs seized in Gujarat. As soon as the discussion on drugs started, opposition members began creating a commotion. Harsh Sanghvi appealed to the opposition members to allow him to answer questions regarding the government’s actions on drugs, stating that it was crucial for accurate information to reach the public.
Jignesh Mevani’s Disruptive Behavior
During this time, Congress members, including Jignesh Mevani, began interrupting with questions about drugs and stood up from their seats. The Speaker asked them to remain calm, but Jignesh Mevani continued to argue and ask questions. Despite several warnings, Mevani did not stop. The Speaker ordered the sergeant-at-arms to remove Jignesh Mevani from the Assembly under Rule 51.
Congress’s Disruption and Accusations
Harsh Sanghvi criticized Congress for deliberately trying to disrupt the proceedings to prevent the discussion on drugs. He accused Congress of using the issue to play politics and claimed that they were trying to divert attention from the drug discussion. Sanghvi accused Congress of engaging in politics under the guise of concern for children’s issues.
