In Uttar Pradesh, political tensions are rising due to upcoming by-elections for ten assembly seats. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has repeatedly accused the Samajwadi Party (SP) of allowing lawlessness and mafia control during their rule. SP president Akhilesh Yadav recently responded to these accusations.
During a recent TV interview with News18, Akhilesh Yadav was asked about Yogi Adityanath’s claim that before 2017, the mafia ruled places like Ghazipur and Prayagraj under the Samajwadi Party government, but after Yogi became CM, these mafias feared entering UP.
Akhilesh Yadav’s Response to Yogi’s Claims
In response, Akhilesh Yadav said, “No chief minister has ever gone to jail to have tea or coffee with mafia members, and no chief minister has withdrawn cases against himself.” He also accused the Yogi government of being biased, mentioning an incident in Sultanpur where a person named Mangesh was arrested on the 2nd of the month and killed in an encounter on the 5th.

Akhilesh criticized the actions of the Special Task Force (STF) and sarcastically said that the STF in UP stands for “Special Thakur Force.” He also reiterated his support for the PDA (an alliance of backward castes, Dalits, and minorities), which he believes is a movement deeply connected with people’s emotions.
He further claimed that if the BJP had not cheated in the elections, the PDA would have won over 50 seats. Akhilesh said that in many places, if the administration had been fair and the complaints made by SP to the Election Commission had been acted upon, the INDIA alliance would have won more than 50 seats.
