Currently, Virat Kohli is one of India’s top cricket players, while Gautam Gambhir holds the position of head coach for Team India. Although both are now working together in the team, it’s no secret that there was a time when they were known as each other’s biggest ‘rivals.’ Recently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) set up an interview where both former rivals sat face to face.

BCCI shared the video of this interview on social media. The video starts by showing highlights from Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir’s innings during the 2011 World Cup final, which ended with India winning the World Cup after 28 years. The interview begins after these memorable moments are shown.

What Did Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli Discuss in the Interview?

At the start of the interview, Gautam Gambhir recalled, “I remember you had an amazing series in Australia, where you scored a lot of runs, and that helped you get into the zone. For me, it was similar when I played in Napier. If I look back now, I wonder if I could bat for two and a half days again? I don’t think I could ever do that again. After that, I was never in that zone again in my life.”

He continued, “That’s why I understand how amazing it feels to be in that zone, and I hope you have experienced it multiple times, which I only felt once.”

Virat Kohli responded, “But when you were batting, and you got into arguments with the opponents, did you ever think it could pull you out of that zone, making you get out? Or did it motivate you even more?”

In reply, Gambhir said with a smile, “You’ve had more controversies than me.” Hearing this, Kohli burst into laughter, and Gambhir added, “You can answer this question better than me.”
