The NDA alliance in Bihar is once again facing internal conflict. This time, it’s about turning the Seemanchal region into a Union Territory. The BJP and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s party, JD(U), are at odds over this issue. On Monday, October 14, BJP MLA and firebrand leader Haribhushan Thakur Bachaul demanded that the central government make the Muslim-majority areas of Seemanchal (Kishanganj, Araria, Purnia, and Katihar) a Union Territory.
BJP Concerned About Security of Hindu Women
In an interview with ABP News, Bachaul expressed his concern that Hindus in Seemanchal have become a minority and claimed that Bangladeshi infiltrators are taking over the region. He pointed out that Seemanchal is close to the international border and called for caution. He further added that in areas like Seemanchal, Darbhanga, and Madhubani, Hindu women are at risk. Referring to the partition of India based on religion, Bachaul argued that since India is a Hindu-majority nation and Pakistan is Muslim-majority, Seemanchal should become a Union Territory to protect Hindus, who he claims are being oppressed there.
Strong Reaction from JD(U)
JD(U) strongly reacted to Bachaul’s demand to make the Muslim-majority Seemanchal a Union Territory. JD(U) national spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan stated that Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, and Christians live together in harmony in Bihar. He emphasized that Bihar has a peaceful, communal atmosphere, and such statements have no justification.

Rajeev Ranjan also responded to comments about the killing of Baba Siddiqui, saying that Siddiqui was born in Bihar and had strong connections with the state. He stressed that politics should not be played over deaths or killings, as every such incident is not only a loss to the family but also deeply affects those associated with the person. He demanded strict punishment for Baba Siddiqui’s killers.
