Kangana Ranaut, Bollywood actress and BJP MP from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi constituency, is back in the spotlight for her latest remarks. She recently urged the central government to reintroduce the repealed farm laws and stated that farmers themselves should demand their reinstatement. Her comments sparked sharp criticism from farmer organizations, who accused her of trying to stay relevant.
What Did the Farmer Leaders Say?
Darshan Pal, a member of the National Coordination Committee of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, hit back, saying Kangana was deliberately trying to provoke farmers. He added that her remarks seemed like an attempt to grab attention just before the release of her upcoming film. “She has no understanding of the struggle during the farmers’ protest or the negative impact of the farm laws,” he stated firmly. Pal also called on the BJP to clarify its stance on her statement.

Jagmohan Singh Dakaunda, General Secretary of BKU Dakaunda, also didn’t hold back. He said the Agriculture Minister should address Kangana’s remarks. “If she knew anything about farming, she wouldn’t have made such comments,” he said bluntly. “She’s trying to provoke farmers. When even Prime Minister Modi has repealed the farm laws, who is she to say they should be brought back?” Dakaunda added that Kangana, not being an expert on agriculture, should stay quiet on such matters, just as farmers don’t comment on her films.
What Did Kangana Say About the Farm Laws?
Kangana compared the repealed farm laws to the idea of “one nation, one election.” She suggested that just as bureaucrats and government employees benefit from a unified election system, farmers would also gain from the farm laws. According to her, farmers should demand the return of these laws. This statement, however, drew immediate backlash from farmer groups, who accused her of making controversial remarks just to remain in the limelight.
It’s important to recall that the central BJP government had repealed the farm laws in November 2021 after facing massive protests. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself had announced the repeal. Kangana had made her latest remarks during an event in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, where she attended the closing ceremony of a district-level fair and spoke to the media about the farm laws.
