Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge arrived in Jammu today (September 21) to campaign for former Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Tara Chand, who is the party’s candidate. During a press conference, Kharge targeted the BJP and Home Minister Amit Shah.
He said, “BJP, which always lies, continues with its falsehoods. We have announced 7 guarantees for Jammu and Kashmir. Our first priority is restoring statehood, and we will do our best to achieve it.”
Raised the Issue of Caste Census
Kharge added, “During the Lok Sabha elections, we promised a caste census, and we will conduct it here as well. OBCs will be given their rightful share. This is essential for the welfare of the people. Once we have the correct data, we will implement schemes that truly benefit everyone.”

‘BJP Spreads Lies’
Taking a jab at the BJP, Kharge said, “Some people say that we want to divide the country based on caste. BJP spreads lies and false propaganda about this. Our Home Minister is leading in this false propaganda. They make promises and then call them ‘jokes.’ What we are saying is not a joke. We will implement it properly. Congress will focus on promises and development.”
‘What Have You Done for Kashmir?’
Kharge also criticized BJP’s claims of peace in Jammu and Kashmir, saying, “Despite your claims of peace, incidents are still happening. What have you done for Jammu and Kashmir? You have no answers, no agenda. Their leaders even threaten to cut off the tongues of our leaders, calling Rahul Gandhi a terrorist and traitor.”
He further said, “Rahul Gandhi has the same impact as his grandmother (Indira Gandhi). Why doesn’t PM Modi take action against those who use bad language against Rahul Gandhi? PM Modi is afraid of the RSS and his MPs.”
‘Our People Made Sacrifices for the Country’
Kharge continued his attack on the BJP by saying, “During the freedom struggle, they (BJP) hid in their homes. Our people sacrificed their lives for the country. Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi gave their lives for the nation. Does the BJP have anyone like that?”
He also added, “The economy of Jammu and Kashmir depends on tourism. We will create a favorable environment for tourism, and we will win more seats than expected in this election.”
