The Indian women’s team lost to New Zealand by 58 runs, but the controversy over Amelia Kerr’s run-out incident refuses to settle down. During the India vs New Zealand match, a strange situation occurred. Amelia Kerr was run out, but the umpire called her back, which left Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur visibly upset. But what exactly happened? Why did the umpire call Amelia Kerr back after she was run out?
This incident took place on the last ball of the 14th over of New Zealand’s innings. Indian off-spinner Deepti Sharma was bowling. Kiwi all-rounder Amelia Kerr hit a shot on the last ball and took a single. Sophie Devine then called for a second run. Harmanpreet Kaur threw the ball to wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh, who managed to run out Amelia Kerr. Amelia Kerr started walking back to the pavilion, and the Indian team began celebrating. But then, the third umpire stopped Amelia and declared her not out, which sparked controversy.

What happened was that before Sophie Devine called for the second run and before Harmanpreet threw the ball, the on-field umpire had already declared the over finished. The umpire had handed Deepti Sharma her cap, signifying the end of the over. Due to this, Amelia Kerr was declared not out. The game was paused for some time, and Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur was seen discussing the situation with the field umpire. Coach Amol Muzumdar also spoke with the third umpire regarding the matter.
