Before the IPL mega auction, the BCCI and IPL Governing Council have made some major changes. These new rules will change the IPL completely. BCCI has introduced stricter rules for foreign players. According to the new rules, if a foreign player does not register for the mega auction, they will be disqualified from the auction. Their name will not appear in the auction, and no bidding will take place for them.
Tighter Rules for Foreign Players
In the past, it has been seen that foreign players, despite receiving huge amounts in the IPL auction, sometimes withdraw from the season before it starts, citing injuries or other issues. This has often caused problems for the IPL teams. Now, the BCCI has taken a strict stance. If a player is bought in the IPL auction and later withdraws, they will be banned for two seasons. This decision will help IPL teams plan better strategies.

Recently, the BCCI and IPL Governing Council announced these new rules ahead of the mega auction. IPL teams will be able to retain five players before the mega auction. Additionally, teams will have a “Right to Match” card, which allows them to bring back one of their players during the auction. This way, teams can bring back up to six of their old players. It is believed that the IPL mega auction will be held in November or December.
