SEBI Chief: Madhabi Puri Buch, the chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), was supposed to appear before the Parliamentary Committee (Public Accounts Committee or PAC) today. However, she expressed her inability to attend and informed the committee in writing.
SEBI Chief Unable to Appear
Madhabi Puri Buch was expected to present before the PAC due to allegations raised against her in recent days. However, she declined to attend. Congress MP and PAC chairman KC Venugopal suggested giving SEBI Chief another date to appear and postponing the meeting. However, this suggestion was opposed by other BJP members of the PAC.
Controversy After SEBI Chief’s Absence
Today’s meeting was meant to review the functioning of regulatory bodies like SEBI. Madhabi Puri Buch had been summoned to present in this context. KC Venugopal said the meeting had to be postponed because of her absence. BJP members opposed this and complained to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. They had previously raised concerns that opposition party leaders were summoning SEBI Chief for political reasons.
