Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024: This year’s Maharashtra Assembly election is significant for several reasons, especially after the split in Shiv Sena and NCP. A tough competition is expected between the Mahayuti alliance and the Maha Vikas Aghadi. All political parties are fielding their candidates, and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) is contesting the election on its own.

In this election, MNS chief Raj Thackeray has fielded his son, Amit Thackeray, as a candidate. The big question now is whether Uddhav Thackeray will field a candidate against his nephew. In the past, Uddhav’s son Aditya Thackeray contested his first election in 2019 and won by a large margin. Aditya was the first member of the Thackeray family to contest elections. Back in 2019, when Aditya contested from the Worli seat, his uncle Raj Thackeray chose not to field any candidate from MNS against him.

Will Uddhav Field a Candidate in Mahim?

Now that Amit Thackeray is contesting, all eyes are on whether Uddhav Thackeray will field a candidate from the Mahim constituency. The Uddhav Thackeray faction has not yet released its list of candidates, and speculation is rising that Uddhav may not field a candidate against his nephew. Reports suggest that Mahim is considered a stronghold of Uddhav’s Shiv Sena faction, but Amit’s candidacy has raised questions.

Shinde Faction Already Has a Candidate in Mahim

On the other hand, the Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde has already fielded its candidate, Sada Sarvankar, in the Mahim constituency. He will be competing against Amit Thackeray. The Uddhav faction is reportedly considering two names—Mahesh Sawant and former municipal councillor Prakash Patankar—for the Mahim seat. Patankar is said to have considerable influence in the area. It remains to be seen whether Uddhav Thackeray will step aside for his nephew or go ahead and field a candidate.
