WR Chess Masters 2024: R Praggnanandhaa Defeats 5-Time World Champion to Reach Semifinals

Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu has secured a spot in the semifinals of the WR Chess Masters 2024. He achieved this by defeating 5-time World Champion Viswanathan Anand in the quarterfinals with a score of 2-1. Praggnanandhaa has been performing well in recent tournaments.

In the WR Chess Masters, Praggnanandhaa beat Viswanathan Anand in the quarterfinals and will now face Arjun Erigaisi in the semifinals. He will aim to win and secure a place in the final.

Earlier in Round 1, Praggnanandhaa defeated Moldova’s Viktor Bologan with a score of 2-0 to enter the quarterfinals. Now, after winning the quarterfinal, he has made it to the semifinals. It will be exciting to see how far Praggnanandhaa goes in the tournament.

The other semifinal will be played between France’s Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Alireza Firouzja. The winners of both semifinals will face each other in the final.

Praggnanandhaa began playing chess after watching his elder sister, Vaishali. He started playing at the young age of three. Interestingly, his parents initially got Vaishali into chess to reduce her TV watching time.

In an interview, Praggnanandhaa’s father shared that they introduced Vaishali to chess to keep her away from watching too much TV. Gradually, both children started enjoying the game, and their parents are happy that both have found success and enjoy playing chess.
