Trump Criticizes India Before PM Modi’s U.S. Visit, Makes Big Accusation

Just before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to the U.S., former U.S. President Donald Trump has made serious accusations against India. He claimed that India has been misusing trade relations. Trump made similar comments during his time as president as well.

Trump’s comments are significant and sensitive for several reasons. His statement comes at a time when PM Modi is about to visit the U.S. Trump was the U.S. President before Joe Biden, and with elections scheduled later this year, Trump is currently leading the race to become the Republican candidate again.

Trump’s Remarks About India
During a campaign rally in Michigan, Trump spoke about India. He claimed that India has been misusing trade relations and imposes heavy tariffs on imports, which he believes is unfair. He also mentioned Brazil and China, saying that they too impose tough trade terms on the U.S., but China’s challenges are the biggest.

Trump Praises PM Modi
While criticizing India’s trade policies, Trump praised PM Modi, calling him a fantastic person. He mentioned that Modi will be visiting the U.S. next week and will meet him during the trip.

PM Modi’s U.S. Visit Begins in Two Days
PM Modi is scheduled to visit the U.S. from September 21 to September 23. He will participate in the Quad Leaders Summit alongside U.S. President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. During the trip, PM Modi will address the “Summit of the Future” at the United Nations General Assembly and speak at a large event for the Indian community in Long Island.

Trump Has Criticized India Before
This isn’t the first time Trump has targeted India. During his presidency, Trump often criticized India’s trade policies and import tariffs. One notable instance was when he criticized India for imposing high tariffs on American Harley Davidson motorcycles, accusing India of unfair trade practices.
