The BJP is likely to hold a meeting on February 17 to decide the name of the next Chief Minister (CM). The party is considering several factors, and caste is said to be an important one. According to a report by The Indian Express, BJP will soon undergo organizational changes, as a new national president will replace JP Nadda. Also, RSS and BJP will begin meetings in the coming days.
A senior BJP leader said, “RSS plays an advisory role in choosing the CM. It gives suggestions based on factors like which caste or community supported BJP in the elections.” The BJP and RSS meetings will also discuss the selection of Deputy CM, Speaker, and Cabinet Ministers. The new cabinet may have up to seven ministers.
Which Caste Will Get the CM Post?
A party source revealed that Brahmins played a key role in BJP’s victory, so a Brahmin leader may get an important position. Similarly, Jat and Punjabi leaders may also be considered for the CM or Deputy CM post since these communities supported BJP in the elections.
BJP already has Brahmin CMs in states like Rajasthan and Maharashtra, an OBC CM in Haryana, and a Rajput CM in Uttar Pradesh. The party wants to maintain a balance among different castes and communities. In Delhi, there is a strong possibility that a Jat leader could become the CM.
