Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Congress to boycott exit poll debates
The Congress party has announced that it will not participate in exit poll debates, with less than a day to go before the exit polls for the Lok Sabha elections are released. According to senior Congress leader Pawan Khera, the party has decided to boycott these debates because they believe that voters have already cast their votes and the results will be out on June 4.
Khera stated on social media platform X that the party does not see any reason to engage in speculation and slugfest for TRP before the results are announced. He added that the purpose of any debate should be to inform the people, and the Congress will happily participate in debates from June 4 onwards.
As voting in the last phase of Lok Sabha polls 2024 comes to a close on Saturday, all eyes will be on the exit polls, which will provide an indication of how India voted in the 18th general elections. The exit poll results will start coming in after 6 pm on June 1, and the counting of votes and result declaration will take place on June 4.
Exit polls are conducted by various organizations, often in tie-ups with media organizations, and are based on interviews with voters right after they exit the polling stations, as well as other calculations related to voter data. Many Indians give the same importance to exit polls as they do to the actual results.
Donald Trump Found Guilty in Landmark Hush Money Trial: A Comprehensive Overview
Former US President Donald Trump has been found guilty on 34 felony charges of falsifying business records, becoming the first former or sitting president to ever be convicted on criminal charges. The verdict was announced on Thursday, May 30, 2024, and it remains uncertain if Trump will be sentenced to prison.
Trump appeared “glum” after the jury read its verdict, according to The New York Times. CNN reported that jurors looked at the judge or at the ground as the foreperson read the verdict, not making eye contact with the former president.
The trial, which took place in New York, centered around allegations of hush money payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels. Trump was accused of making these payments to silence Daniels about an alleged affair between the two. The jury found Trump guilty on every felony count he was charged with.
While the jury decided the verdict, Judge Juan Merchan will ultimately determine what sentence Trump faces. A hearing is scheduled to take place on July 11, four days before the Republican National Convention begins. It’s certain that Trump will appeal the ruling, potentially holding up whatever punishment he receives.
Each of the 34 counts Trump was convicted on is punishable by a fine of up to $5,000 per offense and/or up to four years in prison. This means that in theory, Trump faces up to $170,000 in fines and 136 years in prison if he were given the maximum sentence. However, legal experts believe it’s highly unlikely that he’ll be sentenced to prison as a first-time offender.
Trump called the ruling a “disgrace” in comments to reporters after the verdict, decrying the trial as “rigged” and insisting he’s a “very innocent man.” He returned to Trump Tower, where he waved to a crowd of supporters and protesters.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg largely avoided answering questions about what Trump’s sentencing may look like during a press conference, telling reporters he will “let our words in court speak for themselves when we get to the sentencing matter.”
This verdict has significant implications for Trump’s future in politics, and it will be interesting to see how this unfolds in the coming weeks and months.

Understanding Heatwaves: Causes, Effects, and Regional Implications
Exploring the Urban Heat Island Effect, El Niño, La Niña, and Heat Stress Dynamics in India
The Urban Heat Island Effect occurs when urban areas experience higher temperatures compared to their surrounding rural areas. This happens due to human activities and infrastructure in cities, which absorb and retain heat more efficiently than natural landscapes.
The El Niño Effect refers to unusually warm ocean temperatures in parts of the Pacific Ocean, leading to changes in global weather patterns. The current El Niño cycle, which began in 2023, is contributing to the extreme summer conditions in India. However, as El Niño weakens, La Niña is expected to take its place.
La Niña is characterized by cooling of Pacific Ocean waters and is associated with widespread changes in weather patterns. Once La Niña takes effect, India is likely to experience a good monsoon season.
Heatwaves occur due to various changes in the atmosphere and oceans, leading to heat stress in humans. Dry heat stress occurs in regions with high temperatures and low humidity, like Central and North Western India. Moist heat stress occurs when high temperatures are combined with humidity, affecting regions like the eastern coastal areas. In the last 40 years, India has seen a 30% increase in heat stress cases, with temperatures rising 4 to 5 degrees Celsius above normal summer temperatures in Central India, North West India, and Eastern coastal areas.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli: India’s Final World Cup Odyssey
“Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli Aim to End India’s Trophy Drought in Their Final World Cup Quest”
As cricket enthusiasts gear up for the upcoming T20 World Cup commencing on June 1 in the West Indies and the United States, all eyes are on veteran players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Both stalwarts, aged 37 and 35 respectively, have long carried the hopes of cricket-loving India, which last savored a major title victory in the 2013 Champions Trophy.
India’s journey to the final of last year’s ODI World Cup ended in disappointment, losing to Australia in front of a disheartened crowd at Ahmedabad’s iconic stadium. With the T20 World Cup looming, this may well be the final opportunity for Sharma and Kohli to lift a trophy in a premier white-ball tournament.
Mohammad Kaif, former India batsman, highlighted the significance of this moment, acknowledging that Sharma and Kohli have limited time left in their careers. Their loss in the World Cup final left hearts broken and fans devastated, reflecting the immense pressure on the duo to deliver glory.
While the next T20 World Cup is two years away, followed by the 50-over tournament in 2027, the current edition presents Sharma and Kohli with a crucial chance to leave their mark. Despite contrasting performances in the recent IPL season, where Kohli shone brightly for Royal Challengers Bangalore while Sharma’s Mumbai Indians struggled, both are determined to make their mark on the global stage.
The debate over Kohli’s batting position continues, with some advocating for his role as an opener given his consistency and prowess. Meanwhile, Sharma, known as the “Hitman” for his aggressive style, seeks to rediscover his form after a mixed IPL season.
Having tasted World Cup success in the past, including India’s historic T20 World Cup win in 2007 and the memorable 2011 ODI World Cup triumph, both players understand the magnitude of the challenge ahead. Despite past disappointments, they remain steadfast in their pursuit of glory for their nation.
As India prepares to face Pakistan, Canada, the United States, and Ireland in the group stage, the focus is on navigating through to the knockout rounds. With expectations soaring, Sharma faces his ultimate test in leading India to victory on the world stage.
