India’s Record-Breaking Day at Paris Paralympics: 8 Medals in 24 Hours

At the Paris Paralympics 2024, Indian para-athletes made history by winning the most medals in a single day. On September 2, Monday, India secured a total of 8 medals. This is the highest number of medals won in a day by India, surpassing the 5 medals won on August 30 at the Tokyo Paralympics. Sumit Antil, who won a gold in javelin at Tokyo, also claimed gold in Paris on this historic day. Here’s a look at the medal winners and their achievements:

  1. Yogesh Kathuniya
    Yogesh Kathuniya won a silver medal in the discus throw final, making it India’s first medal on the fifth day.
  2. Nitesh Kumar
    Nitesh Kumar won a gold medal in men’s singles SL3 in badminton. He defeated Britain’s Batel 21-14, 18-21, 23-21.
  3. Thulasimathi Murugesan
    Thulasimathi Murugesan earned a silver medal in women’s singles SU5 in badminton. She lost the final with scores of 21-17, 21-10.
  4. Manisha Ramdas
    Manisha Ramdas won a bronze medal in women’s singles SU5 in badminton. She defeated Denmark’s Kathrine Rosengren 21-12, 21-8.
  5. Suhas Yathiraj
    Suhas Yathiraj also excelled in badminton, winning a silver medal in men’s singles SL4. He lost the final to Lucas Mazur with scores of 21-9, 21-13.
  6. Rakesh Kumar and Sheetal Devi
    The pair of Rakesh Kumar and Sheetal Devi won a bronze medal in archery. They defeated Italy’s Eleonora Sarti and Matteo Bonaccina 156-155 in the mixed team compound bronze match.
  7. Sumit Antil
    Sumit Antil won a gold medal in men’s javelin F64. He threw 70.59 meters to secure the gold.
  8. Nitya Sri Sumathi Sivan
    Nitya Sri Sumathi Sivan won a bronze medal in women’s singles SH6 in badminton. She defeated Indonesia’s Rina Marlina 21-14, 21-6 in the bronze medal match.
