Jammu Kashmir Election 2024: Sajjad Lone’s Party Announces First List of Candidates

Election Updates:
In the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, Sajjad Gani Lone’s party, the People’s Conference, has released its first list of candidates. The party has announced candidates for seven seats in the Kashmir Valley. The seats are in Rafiabad, Kulgam, Zaidiabal, Eidgah, Uri, Baramulla, and Gurez. These seats will have voting in the second and third phases of the election.

Candidates Announced:
On August 28, 2024, the People’s Conference issued a statement confirming that the party president, Sajjad Gani Lone, approved the nomination of seven leaders for the assembly elections. The candidates are:

  • Abdul Gani Wani for Rafiabad
  • Nazir Ahmad Lave for Kulgam
  • Abid Hussain Ansari for Zaidiabal
  • Irfan Mattu for Eidgah
  • Dr. Bashir Ahmad Chaku for Uri
  • Asif Lone for Baramulla
  • Mohammad Hamza Lone for Gurez

Election Schedule:
Eidgah, Zaidiabal, and Kulgam will have elections on September 25, while Uri, Rafiabad, Baramulla, and Gurez will vote on October 1. The nomination process for the first phase is complete, with elections scheduled for September 18. Sajjad Gani Lone previously contested the Lok Sabha elections from Baramulla but lost. It was a high-profile seat where Omar Abdullah also ran, but both lost to Rashid Engineer.

National Conference’s Candidate List:
The National Conference, a major party in Jammu and Kashmir, has released its second list of candidates, which includes 32 names. The party had already announced 18 candidates earlier. The National Conference is contesting the assembly elections in alliance with the Congress party. As part of the alliance, Congress will contest 32 seats, and the National Conference will contest 51 seats. The remaining seats are reserved for allied parties.
