Pakistan’s star batsman Babar Azam has been struggling with his form recently, causing concern in the cricket community. On August 31, Babar was dismissed for just 31 runs on the second day of the second Test against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi. This was his second consecutive disappointing match. In the first Test, Babar was out without scoring in the first innings and made only 22 runs in the second innings.

Salman Ali Agha’s Defense of Babar Azam

Despite Babar’s poor performance, all-rounder Salman Ali Agha has defended him. Agha believes that Babar Azam is a world-class player who will soon return to form. He said, “Babar Azam has been scoring consistently for the past five years. Every player goes through rough patches, but that doesn’t mean we should question their ability. We will soon see Babar scoring big runs again. There are also 10 other players in the team who need attention. Babar still has time to come back strongly.”

Impact on Babar Azam’s ICC Ranking

Pakistan’s performance in the second Test started poorly, with the team collapsing from 179/4 to being all out for 274 runs. Babar Azam, once seen as the backbone of Pakistan’s batting, has been struggling, especially in Test matches. His last half-century came in December 2022, and his average has been falling since then, dropping below 45.

Babar’s declining form has also affected his ICC ranking. He was once in the top three of the ICC Test rankings but has now slipped to ninth place. His rating dropped from 882 after a century against New Zealand in Karachi to 734.
