Delhi Police Busts ‘Band Baaja Baraat’ Gang: Thieves Who Stole at Weddings

Delhi Police’s Crime Branch has arrested three members of the ‘Band Baaja Baraat’ gang, along with a minor, for stealing valuables during wedding functions. The police recovered stolen cash, mobile phones, and silver jewelry from them. This gang mainly targeted big wedding venues in Delhi and North India.

Gang from Madhya Pradesh Trained Kids to Steal

According to DCP Crime Branch Apoorva Gupta, the gang comes from Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and becomes active during the wedding season in Delhi-NCR and other big cities.

  • The gang leader lured poor families by offering ₹10-12 lakh and took their children with him.
  • These children were trained to steal and then sent to weddings as guests.

The thieves dressed well, attended wedding functions, ate food, and blended in with other guests. When they got a chance, they stole bags, jewelry, and cash before escaping.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Due to the increasing number of wedding theft cases in Delhi-NCR, the Crime Branch started investigating.

  • The police examined CCTV footage from various wedding venues.
  • They activated their informants and identified three suspects and a minor.
  • The police got a tip that the suspects were at a bus stop near Shastri Park Metro Depot, waiting to return to their village.

A quick police raid led to their arrest.

Who Are the Accused?

The three accused are Ajju, Kuljeet, and Kalu, all from Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh.

  • The gang included both men and women.
  • They rented houses in Delhi and transported children to and from the wedding venues for theft.
  • After stealing, they immediately disappeared to avoid suspicion.

Police Solve Three More Cases

With their arrest, the police also solved three past theft cases:

  1. Blessing Banquet Hall (12 February 2025) – Jewelry stolen near Jhilmil Metro Station.
  2. Victoria Palace (9 February 2025) – ₹5 lakh cash and jewelry stolen from Nangli Poona, Delhi.
  3. S.K. Mohit Banquet Hall (14 February 2025) – ₹4 lakh cash and jewelry stolen from Jhilmil Industrial Area.

The arrest of this gang is a big success for Delhi Police, and they are now working to catch other members of the group. 🚔
