AI Writing 90% of Code Has Not Stopped Hiring at Anthropic, Says CFO Krishna Rao

The rapid rise of artificial intelligence is changing how modern tech companies operate, and Anthropic appears to be at the center of that transformation. Even though AI systems are now responsible for generating most of the company’s software code, the firm says it is continuing to recruit more employees instead of reducing staff.

During a recent appearance on the Invest Like the Best podcast, Anthropic Chief Financial Officer Krishna Rao shared insights into how AI has become deeply integrated into the company’s internal operations.

Anthropic’s AI Tools Are Writing the Majority of Code

According to Rao, Anthropic’s coding assistant Claude Code is currently producing over 90 percent of the company’s software code. The tool is helping engineering teams complete projects faster while reducing the amount of repetitive manual work.

The company is also using AI across finance and operational departments. Rao explained that several financial processes that previously consumed hours can now be finished in a fraction of the time using AI-generated drafts and automation systems.

He noted that many reports and financial documents are already nearly complete before human review begins, allowing teams to focus more on accuracy checks and strategic decisions.

Company Hiring Continues Despite AI Automation

While many technology firms are facing concerns over AI-driven job cuts, Anthropic says its experience has been different. Instead of replacing employees, AI tools are helping existing teams become more productive and capable of handling larger workloads.

Krishna Rao said the company has continued to expand its workforce rapidly as AI improves efficiency across departments.

Anthropic’s strategy appears focused on building highly skilled teams supported by advanced AI systems rather than maintaining large workforces performing repetitive tasks manually.

Employees Are Shifting Toward Oversight Roles

Rao suggested that workplace roles inside AI companies are beginning to evolve. Instead of spending time on direct execution work, employees are increasingly supervising AI systems, reviewing outputs, and coordinating multiple automated agents at once.

This shift could reshape how future tech teams operate, with human workers taking on more leadership, management, and decision-making responsibilities while AI handles technical execution.

Krishna Rao’s Role at Anthropic

Krishna Rao joined Anthropic in 2024 as the company’s first CFO. Before joining the startup, he worked with investment firm Tidemark and previously held leadership roles at companies including Fanatics and Cedar.

Under his leadership, Anthropic has witnessed massive financial growth as demand for generative AI tools continues to rise worldwide.

AI Infrastructure Becoming a Major Priority

Rao also highlighted the growing importance of computing infrastructure in the AI industry. He described computing power as one of the most valuable resources for companies building advanced language models.

Reports suggest Anthropic has partnered with SpaceX to access high-performance computing systems for future AI model development.

The company is widely viewed as one of the strongest competitors in the generative AI space and is reportedly being discussed as a possible future IPO candidate.

Debate Over AI and Employment Continues

The discussion around AI replacing jobs remains one of the biggest topics in the technology industry. While some businesses have used automation to reduce staffing, Anthropic believes AI can also create opportunities for expansion and innovation.

The company’s approach suggests that AI may not entirely replace human workers but could instead transform the nature of work by automating repetitive tasks and increasing the value of strategic human skills.
