The India Meteorological Department has warned that a severe cyclonic storm could hit the Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narsapur on November 3, bringing winds of up to 110 kmph.
Just days after Cyclone Arnab affected parts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, another powerful weather system is developing over the Bay of Bengal. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm and make landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast on November 3.
The weather department has warned that the approaching storm could bring sustained wind speeds of 100–110 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 120 kmph. Coastal areas may experience strong winds and heavy rainfall as the system moves closer to land.
Cyclone Likely to Cross Andhra Pradesh Coast on November 3
In its latest weather bulletin, the IMD said a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal and nearby areas of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands was moving west-northwestwards.
The system was travelling at around 30 kmph during the six hours before the latest observation. At 5:30 pm, it was located approximately 960 km east-southeast of Chennai and 980 km southeast of Visakhapatnam.
According to the IMD’s forecast, the depression is expected to strengthen into a deep depression before developing into a cyclonic storm on November 1. It may further intensify into a severe cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay of Bengal by November 2.
The system is then expected to approach the south Andhra Pradesh coast during the early hours of November 3.
Nellore to Narsapur May Be in the Storm’s Path
The IMD has indicated that the cyclone could cross the Andhra Pradesh coastline between Nellore and Narsapur on the morning of November 3.
At the time of landfall, wind speeds are expected to remain between 100 and 110 kmph, with maximum gusts potentially reaching 120 kmph.
Residents in coastal districts are advised to follow official weather updates and take necessary precautions as the situation develops.
Odisha Also Likely to Experience Rainfall
Although the expected landfall area is along the Andhra Pradesh coast, parts of Odisha may also experience changing weather conditions.
The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers in a few districts of Odisha. Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar Director Manorama Mohanty said the department was closely monitoring the developing weather system.
IMD Monitoring the Developing Weather System
The latest development comes shortly after severe cyclonic storm Arnab affected Andhra Pradesh and Odisha on October 28.
With another system gaining strength over the Bay of Bengal, weather officials are keeping a close watch on its movement and intensity. Further updates are expected as the storm approaches the eastern coastline.
People living in potentially affected coastal areas should monitor official IMD bulletins and follow instructions issued by local authorities.
