The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is known as the wealthiest cricket board in the world. But how much money does it actually have? The BCCI’s income from the IPL and various sponsors is in the billions. In recent years, the IPL has become the largest source of revenue for the board, and this is reflected in its bank balance.

Over ₹16,000 Crores in Bank Balance

BCCI has released its financial statements for 2022-23, and the amount revealed is astonishing. After the last financial year, the board’s bank balance is over ₹16,000 crores. The board earned more than ₹11,000 crores from the IPL 2023 season alone.

Huge Earnings from IPL Season

It’s clear that BCCI’s biggest earnings come from the IPL, bringing not just revenue but also massive profits. According to Economic Times, BCCI earned ₹11,769 crores from the IPL 2023 season, which is a 78% increase from the previous year. According to the board’s annual report, they made a profit and surplus of ₹5,120 crores from IPL 2023. This is a 116% increase from the ₹2,367 crores surplus from IPL 2022.

131% Increase in Earnings

The income from IPL, along with sponsorships, plays a major role in BCCI’s earnings. However, the most significant amount comes from broadcasting rights. In 2022, BCCI secured a broadcasting deal for IPL (2023-27) worth ₹48,390 crores. This deal has helped BCCI’s earnings reach new heights. For IPL 2023, the board earned ₹8,744 crores from this deal, up from ₹3,780 crores in IPL 2022, marking a 131% increase.

₹2,038 Crores GST Paid

BCCI’s expenses for IPL have also increased, rising by 66% to ₹6,648 crores. Overall, the board has ₹16,493.2 crores in banks, including savings and fixed deposits. BCCI also paid a significant amount in GST, totaling ₹2,038 crores.

Future Earnings Expected to Increase

BCCI has not yet released the earnings report for 2023-24, so there is hope that earnings will increase further. The board plans to expand the tournament from 74 matches to 84 matches in upcoming seasons. This expansion is expected to boost earnings from media rights and sponsorships.
