The demand for caste-based census has been a topic of discussion in India for a while. Now, the Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) from Delhi has made a new demand. They want that if a caste-based census is conducted, it should also include data on how much tax people from each caste pay. CTI has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi with this request. They will also send letters to the Chief Ministers of all states.

What CTI Wrote to the PM

In the letter to the Prime Minister, CTI said that people should know the role of different castes in the economy. They want to know who pays the most tax and if the government makes policies considering their interests. The letter mentioned that the government has data on income tax and GST, but it is not clear how much revenue each caste contributes.

Demand for Insurance, Pension, and Medical Benefits

CTI also suggested that the caste contributing the most revenue should have policies and benefits like insurance, pensions, and medical facilities. CTI Chairman Brijesh Goyal said that, as a trade organization, they are making this demand because there is a lot of discussion about it in the trader community. Thousands of traders support this demand.
