Fairphone has officially expanded its smartphone lineup in the United States with the launch of the Fairphone Gen 6+, a repair-focused Android smartphone priced at $649. The new device is now available unlocked in the US through Fairphone’s website and Amazon.
The launch marks an important step for Fairphone, a company known for making smartphones that are easier to repair and maintain compared with most modern devices.
Fairphone Gen 6+ Specifications
The Fairphone Gen 6+ features a 6.31-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution slightly higher than Full HD+. Under the hood, the phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset, paired with 12GB of RAM.
The smartphone comes with 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage and also supports microSD cards, giving users the option to expand storage.
On the software side, the Fairphone Gen 6+ runs Android 16 out of the box. Fairphone is promising operating system updates through 2032, which could make the phone a long-term option for buyers who want to keep their device for several years.
50MP Dual-Camera Setup
For photography, the Fairphone Gen 6+ features a dual-camera system on the rear. It includes a 50MP primary camera alongside a 13MP ultrawide camera.
The phone also includes a fingerprint sensor built into the power button. Another distinctive feature is a physical switch that can activate a minimalist mode, allowing users to simplify the phone experience when they want fewer distractions.
The device is available in three colors: Cobalt Blue, Horizon Black and Green.
Repairability Is the Main Highlight
The biggest selling point of the Fairphone Gen 6+ is its repairable design.
The smartphone has a 4,415mAh removable battery that does not rely on adhesive. Fairphone says users can replace 12 different components themselves, including important parts such as the display, USB-C port and back cover.
These components are secured with screws, allowing certain repairs to be completed in just a few minutes without requiring specialized equipment.
Fairphone also offers replaceable backplates that can support accessories such as a lanyard, wallet or finger loop grip.
Some Compromises Remain
The repair-friendly design does come with a few compromises. The 4,415mAh battery is smaller than the batteries found in many competing smartphones, while the phone has an IP55 rating for dust and water resistance.
Those specifications may not match some mainstream smartphones, but Fairphone is targeting buyers who prioritize long-term ownership, repairability and sustainability over having the most aggressive specifications.
Fairphone Gen 6+ Price and Availability in the US
The Fairphone Gen 6+ costs $649 in the United States and is sold unlocked. It is available through Fairphone and Amazon.
The phone is compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile networks in the US.
With its combination of Android 16, long-term software support, expandable storage and user-replaceable components, the Fairphone Gen 6+ offers a different approach to the modern smartphone market. Rather than encouraging users to replace a phone when a component fails, Fairphone is betting on keeping devices usable for much longer.
