France Beat Morocco 2-0 to Reach FIFA World Cup Semi-Finals as Kylian Mbappe Shines

Date:

France booked their place in a third consecutive FIFA World Cup semi-final after defeating Morocco 2-0 in a one-sided quarter-final at Boston Stadium on Friday. Despite an early penalty miss from Kylian Mbappe, the French forwards proved too strong as Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele found the net to secure a convincing victory.

France Outclass Morocco to Reach World Cup Semi-Finals

Didier Deschamps’ side controlled the game from start to finish, dominating possession and limiting Morocco to almost no attacking opportunities. France’s defense, led by Dayot Upamecano and William Saliba, kept the African champions quiet throughout the contest, while goalkeeper Mike Maignan was required to make only one save.

Morocco, ranked seventh in the FIFA World Rankings, struggled to create chances and missed the presence of midfielder Ismael Saibari, who was unavailable due to a hamstring injury. Their attack lacked creativity, and they failed to seriously test the French backline for most of the match.

Mbappe Misses Penalty but Responds in Style

France received a penalty in the 28th minute after sustained attacking pressure. Mbappe stepped up from the spot but saw his low effort brilliantly saved by Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, ending the forward’s flawless penalty record for France since Euro 2020.

The missed opportunity did little to affect France’s momentum. Lucas Digne came close to opening the scoring before halftime with a long-range effort that struck the crossbar, while Morocco failed to register a meaningful attempt on goal during the opening 45 minutes.

Mbappe and Dembele Seal Comfortable Victory

Mbappe made amends for his penalty miss in the 60th minute, finishing confidently after a well-worked attacking move to give France the breakthrough. The goal was his eighth of the tournament, drawing him level in the Golden Boot race.

France doubled their advantage shortly afterward when Ousmane Dembele finished clinically after excellent movement created space inside Morocco’s penalty area. The goal effectively ended any hopes of a Moroccan comeback as France comfortably managed the remainder of the match.

France Eye Another World Cup Final

With the victory, France advanced to their third straight FIFA World Cup semi-final, continuing an impressive run on football’s biggest stage. Their attacking trio consistently troubled Morocco’s defense, while their disciplined backline ensured a comfortable clean sheet.

France will now meet the winner of the quarter-final between Spain and Belgium for a place in the World Cup final. Based on their current form, the reigning European giants will enter the semi-final full of confidence as they continue their pursuit of another world title.
