Focus on Peaceful Resolution
PM Modi’s visit to Ukraine comes about six weeks after his high-profile trip to Moscow, which faced criticism from the US and Western countries. During his visit, PM Modi is expected to meet with Ukrainian President Zelensky and discuss ways to peacefully resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict. He traveled from Poland to Kyiv by a special train called ‘Rail Force One,’ which took approximately 10 hours. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and National Security Advisor are accompanying him.
Historic Visit
This is the first time an Indian Prime Minister has visited Ukraine since diplomatic relations were established in 1992. Before leaving Delhi, Modi expressed his eagerness to strengthen bilateral cooperation and advance discussions on a peaceful solution to the ongoing conflict. India has maintained a neutral stance in the Russia-Ukraine war and has called for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the issue. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has stated that India could play a crucial and constructive role in resolving the conflict.
