Ranveer Singh Faces Industry Heat Over ‘Don 3’ Exit, FWICE Issues Non-Cooperation Directive

Share

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has landed in the middle of a major controversy after a leading film workers’ union reportedly asked its members not to cooperate with him following his alleged sudden exit from the much-awaited movie Don 3.

The development has sparked intense debate across the film industry and social media, with fans and industry insiders divided over whether the actor is being unfairly targeted or held accountable for an unprofessional move.

FWICE Accuses Ranveer Singh of Last-Minute Withdrawal

The dispute began after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) claimed that producers of Don 3 had already invested nearly Rs 45 crore in pre-production work before Ranveer Singh allegedly backed out of the project.

According to reports, filmmaker Farhan Akhtar filed a complaint with FWICE, alleging that the actor withdrew from the film just weeks before shooting was scheduled to begin. The production team had reportedly already finalized overseas schedules, crew arrangements, and several expensive preparations.

FWICE president BN Tiwari said the organization repeatedly requested the actor to clarify his position but did not receive a response.

“We want to send a message that no superstar is above industry rules,” Tiwari reportedly stated while announcing a non-cooperation directive against the actor.

What Does the Non-Cooperation Directive Mean?

While the move is not officially termed as a “ban,” it still carries significant weight in the Hindi film industry. FWICE represents thousands of workers, technicians, and crew members associated with movies and television productions.

The directive reportedly asks members to avoid working with Ranveer Singh until he agrees to meet union representatives and address the issue.

However, sources close to the actor suggested that Singh’s team questioned whether FWICE had the authority to summon him in the matter.

So far, the actor has not publicly addressed the controversy.

Don Franchise and Ranveer Singh’s Role

The Don franchise remains one of Bollywood’s most iconic action series. Originally headlined by Amitabh Bachchan in 1978, the films followed the story of a powerful underworld figure with international ambitions.

Years later, Farhan Akhtar rebooted the franchise with Shah Rukh Khan playing the lead role in 2006 and 2011.

When Don 3 was officially announced in 2023, Ranveer Singh was introduced as the new face of the franchise, replacing Shah Rukh Khan. The casting itself had triggered mixed reactions among fans, making the latest controversy even bigger.

Social Media Divided Over the Controversy

The issue has generated strong reactions online.

Some users defended Ranveer Singh, saying actors often leave films due to creative differences or scheduling conflicts, and questioned why the actor was facing such intense criticism.

Others sided with the producers, arguing that large-scale projects involve huge financial risks and that last-minute exits can seriously impact production plans.

Several social media users also described the situation as a reminder that professionalism remains crucial in big-budget Bollywood productions.

Ranveer Singh’s Recent Career and Past Controversies

Despite the controversy, Ranveer Singh remains one of Bollywood’s biggest stars. Known for films like Padmaavat and Gully Boy, the actor has built a strong fan base with his energetic screen presence and unconventional personality.

He was recently seen in Dhurandhar, which reportedly performed strongly at the box office.

This is not the first time the actor has found himself at the center of controversy. In 2025, he faced criticism after recreating a ritual sequence from the Kannada blockbuster Kantara during a public event, with some accusing him of disrespecting cultural traditions. He later apologized.

Earlier, in 2015, Singh was also involved in the fallout surrounding a controversial celebrity comedy roast that triggered police complaints and debates around free speech and obscenity.

What Happens Next?

At the moment, neither Ranveer Singh nor the makers of Don 3 have issued a detailed official statement regarding the future of the film.

With the controversy continuing to dominate entertainment headlines, fans are now waiting to see whether the actor reconciles with FWICE or if the dispute escalates further within the industry.
