Rajasthan Royals youngster Vaibhav Sooryavanshi delivered one of the most destructive innings in IPL history during the IPL 2026 Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday. The teenage sensation smashed a stunning 97 runs off just 29 balls, guiding Rajasthan Royals to a commanding 47-run victory at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.

The explosive knock not only earned Sooryavanshi the Player of the Match award but also pushed him to the top of the IPL 2026 Orange Cap standings. The left-handed batter has now scored 680 runs in 15 matches this season, making him one of the biggest stars of the tournament.

For a moment, it looked like the 15-year-old would break Chris Gayle’s legendary record for the fastest IPL century, which came off 30 balls. However, Sooryavanshi fell just three runs short after getting dismissed for 97 while attempting another big hit.

Despite missing the century, the Rajasthan Royals batter shattered several major IPL and T20 records during his breathtaking innings.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Breaks Record for Most Runs by an Uncapped Player

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi now holds the record for the highest runs scored by an uncapped player in a single IPL season. He surpassed Rajasthan Royals teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal’s previous record of 626 runs set during IPL 2023.

The young batter has already accumulated 680 runs this season and continues to dominate bowling attacks across the tournament.

Most Sixes in an IPL Season

The RR opener also became the player with the most sixes in a single IPL season. Sooryavanshi has smashed 65 sixes so far, overtaking Chris Gayle’s long-standing record.

Remarkably, he needed only 15 deliveries during his innings against SRH to break the record. His tally of 65 maximums is also the highest by any player in a T20 tournament or bilateral T20 series.

First Teenager to Score 600 Runs in a T20 Tournament

At just 15 years of age, Sooryavanshi became the first teenager in cricket history to score 600 runs in a T20 tournament.

He reached the milestone early in the innings after needing only 17 runs before the match.

Joint Fastest Fifty in IPL Playoff History

The young star reached his half-century in only 16 balls, equalling the record for the fastest fifty in IPL playoff history.

Former Chennai Super Kings batter Suresh Raina had earlier achieved the same feat during Qualifier 2 of IPL 2014 against Punjab Kings.

Most Sixes in an IPL Playoff Innings

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi hammered 12 massive sixes during his innings, setting a new record for the most sixes hit in an IPL playoff match.

The previous record belonged to Shubman Gill, who smashed 10 sixes for Gujarat Titans during IPL 2023.

First Player to Hit 10+ Sixes Three Times in One IPL Season

The explosive batter also became the first player in IPL history to hit 10 or more sixes in an innings three times during a single season.

Earlier in IPL 2026, he had smashed 12 sixes against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Jaipur and 10 sixes against Lucknow Super Giants.

Equals Chris Gayle’s Historic IPL Record

Sooryavanshi has now equalled Chris Gayle’s record of four IPL innings featuring 10 or more sixes.

His first such innings came earlier this season against Gujarat Titans, where he blasted 11 sixes during his maiden IPL century.

Most Powerplay Runs in IPL History

Known for his fearless approach in the powerplay overs, the Rajasthan Royals batter has now scored 490 runs during the first six overs this season.

He overtook David Warner’s previous IPL record of 467 powerplay runs set for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2016.

Most Sixes in IPL Powerplay Overs

During the Eliminator clash, Sooryavanshi smashed eight sixes inside the powerplay, the most by any batter in IPL history.

The previous record of seven powerplay sixes was jointly held by players including Abhishek Sharma, Sanath Jayasuriya and Jonny Bairstow.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Emerges as IPL 2026’s Biggest Superstar

With fearless batting, record-breaking consistency and unmatched power-hitting, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has become the biggest talking point of IPL 2026.

At just 15 years old, the Rajasthan Royals sensation is already rewriting cricket history and establishing himself as one of the brightest young talents in world cricket.
