Rajasthan CET 2024: Negative Marking Removed, No More Fear of Losing Marks

0

The Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSSB) has made a major change in the Rajasthan Common Eligibility Test (CET) 2024 rules. Negative marking will no longer be a part of the exam. This means candidates can now take the exam without worrying about losing marks for incorrect answers. An official notice about this change has not been released yet, but RSSB will issue one soon. Candidates should regularly check the official website for updates: rssb.org.

Reason for the Change

The decision to remove negative marking was made in response to student protests. Earlier this month, RSSB had announced that the CET for graduate-level positions would include one-third negative marking. This led to significant opposition from candidates. Ultimately, the board decided to remove negative marking.

Benefits for Candidates

With negative marking removed, candidates can now attempt more questions without fear of losing marks for incorrect answers. This will allow them to try answering questions they are unsure about, as there will be no penalty for wrong answers. This change is a big relief for students.

Job Opportunities

Through this recruitment exam, candidates can apply for various positions such as Patwari, VDO, Junior Accountant, and Supervisor in departments like the Women Empowerment Department. To pass, candidates need to score at least 40% marks. After passing the CET, they become eligible to participate in 11 different recruitment exams.

Government Intervention

Students had been protesting against the negative marking rule for some time. The government had to intervene and address their concerns. The official notice confirming this change will be released soon. Candidates are advised to regularly check the official website for updates.

In Hyderabad, the N Convention Center, owned by actor Nagarjuna, is facing demolition due to encroachment issues. Local authorities have started this action based on reports that the convention center was built illegally on a local water body, Tammedi Cheruvu.

Allegations and Investigation

Reports claim that the N Convention Center was constructed on 3.5 acres of land that was originally part of the lake. Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HYDRAA) officials began investigating after receiving complaints. The center reportedly occupies 1.12 acres of the Full Tank Level (FTL) area and an additional 2 acres within the buffer zone of the Tammedi Kunta lake.

Ongoing Issue

The investigation into the N Convention Center has been ongoing for several years. The action is part of efforts to address illegal constructions within the FTL area and buffer zone of the Tammedi Kunta lake, which covers approximately 29.24 acres.

Roads Closed and Demolition in Progress

Police have been deployed to the site, and all roads leading to the N Convention Center are currently closed. No one is allowed to enter the site. HYDRAA officials arrived early on Saturday morning to begin the demolition process.

Action Taken After Newborn’s Death at Delhi’s Kasturba Hospital

0

A political stir has erupted after a newborn died at Kasturba Hospital in Delhi due to a power shutdown and lack of backup electricity. The delivery was performed using a torchlight. Both Congress and BJP have criticized Delhi’s government and MCD Mayor Shelly Oberoi.

Investigation Ordered

Following the incident, MCD Mayor Shelly Oberoi has taken action. She has instructed the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) Commissioner to investigate the matter. In her letter to the MCD Commissioner, Oberoi referred to a media report revealing that on August 22, 2024, a newborn died at Kasturba Gandhi Hospital because of a power outage. She has asked for a serious investigation to identify the responsible officials and ensure strict action is taken against them.

Delhi’s Healthcare System Under Scrutiny

Before Oberoi’s order, Delhi Congress President Devender Yadav criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and MCD for failing in their responsibilities. He claimed that the incident at Kasturba Hospital, where a delivery was conducted with torchlight, exposes the failures of the government’s healthcare system.

Yadav alleged that the newborn’s death was due to the lack of electricity at the hospital. He accused Delhi’s Mayor and Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj of being directly responsible for the negligence. Yadav called for a public apology and compensation for the affected family, blaming the AAP government for the deteriorating state of healthcare in Delhi.

One of his standout performances was a 187-run innings against Australia on his Test debut. However, in a recent conversation with Hindustan Times, Dhawan revealed that his favorite innings was the 117 runs he scored despite a broken thumb.

The 2019 World Cup Match

During the group stage of the 2019 ODI World Cup, India played against Australia. India set a huge target of 352 runs. In the 9th over of India’s innings, a delivery from Pat Cummins hit Dhawan’s thumb. It was later discovered that Dhawan had a fracture in his thumb, but he continued to bat.

Playing Through Pain

Dhawan recalled the injury, saying, “We were playing against Australia in the World Cup. I was batting at 25 runs when the fracture happened. The ball came at around 150 km/h and hit my hand directly. I took painkillers and still managed to score 117 runs despite the injury.”

In that match, Dhawan and Rohit Sharma put on a 127-run opening partnership. Dhawan also added 93 runs with Virat Kohli. Due to his injury, Dhawan could not play any aerial shots and did not hit a single six, but he scored 16 fours. Despite his good form, Dhawan played only two matches in that World Cup.

Several foreign shipping companies operating in India have received significant relief. The tax department has decided to withdraw a large tax demand against them. This decision means a relief of approximately ₹3000 crore for these companies.

Tax Demand Dropped for 18 Companies

According to a report by ET, the Directorate General of Goods and Services Tax Intelligence (DGGI) has decided to drop the tax demand of around ₹3000 crore against 18 foreign shipping companies operating in India. These demands were related to the financial year 2017-18. The news about this decision has been reported by sources familiar with the case.

Companies Benefiting from the Decision

If the report is accurate, several major foreign companies will benefit from this decision. This includes companies like Maersk, Orient Overseas Container Line Limited, and Hapag-Lloyd Mediterranean Shipping. These companies had received notices from the tax department for not paying GST on service imports after July 2017.

Notices for Years After 2017-18 Still Stand

The report also mentions that the companies had provided a joint undertaking stating that they did not import any services during 2017-18. As a result, the tax department decided to drop the ₹3000 crore demand. However, notices for the years following 2017-18 are still in effect.

Investigation Started Last Year

The DGGI started investigating the shipping companies in October 2023. The investigation alleged that several foreign shipping and aviation companies’ branch offices had not paid GST under the reverse charge mechanism. The case involved non-payment of GST on services like rental services, aircraft maintenance, and crew salaries.

Abbas Ansari Gets Bail Relief from High Court

0

Abbas Ansari, the son of gangster Mukhtar Ansari, has received a significant relief. The Allahabad High Court has granted him bail. This decision is related to an FIR filed against him for threatening a man named Abu Fakhar Khan and trying to take his land. Abbas Ansari, along with his uncle Atif Raza (also known as Sarjeel Raza) and close associate Afroz, has been granted bail. The court reserved its judgment on August 1 after hearing their pleas.

Justice Rajveer Singh’s single bench announced the decision. However, despite receiving bail, Abbas Ansari will not be released from jail yet. He still has a pending bail application in the Supreme Court related to another case. In contrast, his uncle Atif Raza and associate Afroz will be released from jail.

The FIR was filed by Abu Fakhar Khan on August 12, 2023, at the Ghazipur City Kotwali.

Charges:
The FIR was filed against Mukhtar Ansari, his wife Afshan Ansari, son Abbas Ansari, brother-in-law Atif Raza, Anwar Shehzad, and close associate Afroz. They are accused of fraud, extortion, threatening to kill, grabbing land and money, and conspiracy.

The allegations are that Abu Fakhar Khan owned valuable land in front of a homeopathic medical college. Mukhtar Ansari allegedly sent his brothers-in-law to call Abu Fakhar Khan to Lucknow jail in 2012, where he pressured him to transfer the land to Abbas Ansari. Khan was threatened with murder if he did not comply.

The accused reportedly paid Khan 20 lakh in a check and 4 lakh in cash for the land. During the process, Afroz, Atif Raza, and Anwar Shehzad took Khan to Abbas Ansari, who allegedly threatened him with a pistol and forced him to sign the check. They then withdrew money from the bank and took possession of the land. Mukhtar Ansari’s wife Afshan Ansari was also involved.

Atif Raza, also known as Sarjeel, is currently imprisoned in Lucknow. Mukhtar Ansari’s brother-in-law Anwar Shehzad has already been granted bail in this case.
