Names being discussed for the new BJP president include Shivraj Singh Chouhan, former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh; Manohar Lal Khattar, former Chief Minister of Haryana; Devendra Fadnavis, former Chief Minister of Maharashtra; and Bhupender Yadav, a central minister. All these leaders currently hold significant positions. Shivraj Singh Chouhan is seen as a strong candidate due to his extensive experience in both government and party organization. Some analysts, however, are skeptical of his candidacy because he is a central minister. It’s worth noting that Rajnath Singh and JP Nadda were also central ministers when they were appointed as BJP presidents.

Impact of Recent Elections

The BJP faced a setback in Uttar Pradesh in the recent Lok Sabha elections, where it finished in second place. The INDIA alliance won 43 seats in the state, and the BJP did not achieve a majority on its own, unlike in 2014 and 2019. Political experts believe that the alliance’s success in gaining support from backward and Dalit voters has led to a shift away from the BJP. The party is now looking to regain these voters, possibly by appointing an OBC leader as president. Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Bhupender Yadav could be strong contenders for this reason. On the other hand, Devendra Fadnavis, with his close ties to the RSS and Brahmin background, could also be a significant choice.

Elections are also expected in Haryana, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and Jammu and Kashmir later this year. BJP wants to appoint a new president before these crucial elections. The RSS coordination meeting in Palakkad, Kerala, is scheduled for August 31 and September 2. There is speculation that the BJP might announce a new president before this meeting.

Constable Neetu Kumari, from the 2015 batch, had been having ongoing disputes with her husband, which had been noted by nearby police officers. The couple had argued the previous evening. Neeraj had mentioned in June after his win at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland that he would consult doctors about his injury after the Paris Olympics. He won the World Championships in 2023 despite the groin injury. Before the Paris Olympics, he took a break of over a month due to an adductor muscle problem. Neeraj had previously consulted a doctor in Germany for his injury and trained in Saarbrücken, Germany, for a while before the Olympics.

During the Paris Olympics, Neeraj expressed his desire to compete in the Diamond League Final in Brussels on September 14. However, he needs to participate in at least one Diamond League event, which will be held in Lausanne on August 22 and Zurich on September 5. The family source stated, “His team (coach and physio) will decide based on his condition whether he will participate in the Diamond League events and the final.”

Neeraj has only participated in one Diamond League event this year, which took place in Doha on May 10. He finished second behind Jakub Vadlejch, the current Diamond League Trophy winner from the Czech Republic. Having won the Diamond League Trophy in 2022, Neeraj is currently tied for fourth place with seven points in the Diamond League final standings. The court questioned how the principal could be appointed to another hospital after he resigned, taking moral responsibility for the incident. The Chief Justice’s bench, led by Chief Justice T.S. Shivagnanam, noted that there were “some deficiencies” in the investigation and asked if the statement of the then-principal, Sandeep Ghosh, was recorded. The state advocate responded with a “no.”

Deadline for Filing Leave Application

Justice Hiranyamoy Bhattacharya’s bench ordered the state advocate to file a leave application by 3 PM that day. If not, the court would issue a directive for them to leave their position. The Chief Justice’s bench also pointed out that despite holding an administrative position, the principal should have been questioned first. The court questioned why the state was protecting him.

Court Demands Documents

The court instructed state advocate Suman Sengupta to bring the resignation letter of Principal Sandeep Ghosh, his new appointment letter, and the case diary by 1 PM. Ghosh had resigned from his position, stating, “The girl who died was like my daughter… As a guardian, I am resigning.” However, within 24 hours of his resignation, he was appointed as the principal of Calcutta Medical College.

China’s Rocket Fails: Breaks into 300 Pieces

China recently attempted a space mission inspired by Elon Musk’s SpaceX Starlink but faced a setback. The Long March 6A rocket, launched with 18 Qianfan satellites, broke into over 300 pieces.

The Long March 6A rocket was launched on August 6, 2024, from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in Shanxi Province. It initially traveled up to 800 kilometers into space. The rocket, designed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Innovation Center in Shanghai, has now become space debris.

According to the US Space Command (USSPACECOM), the rocket broke apart in low Earth orbit, creating more than 300 fragments. Currently, there is no immediate threat from this debris, and the space environment remains safe.

China’s Long March 6A rocket was part of the Qianfan Mega Project, which aims to improve communication services in China. The Qianfan network, created by the Shanghai-based company SpaceCell, plans to launch over 15,000 low Earth orbit satellites over time. By the end of 2024, the company plans to launch about 108 satellites and around 648 by the end of 2025.

In comparison, SpaceX’s Starlink has already deployed over 6,000 satellites and has over 3 million customers in 100 countries.

82-Year-Old Murdered for 90 Lakh FD; Bank Manager and 5 Others Arrested

In Kollam, Kerala, a shocking murder case has emerged. Two months ago, an 82-year-old man named Pappachan died in what was initially believed to be a road accident. However, it was later discovered that his death was actually a planned murder.

Pappachan, a retired BSNL employee, lived alone in Kollam due to family disputes. He had invested 90 lakh rupees in a fixed deposit (FD) at a private bank.

Dispute with Bank Manager

Pappachan had frequent interactions with the bank manager, 45-year-old Sarita, and account executive Anoop regarding his FD. Both knew that Pappachan was living alone and had issues with his family. Some months ago, Sarita promised Pappachan higher interest on his FD but then withdrew 40 lakh rupees from it, transferring the amount to different banks without his consent.

This led to a dispute between Pappachan and Sarita. To get rid of Pappachan and claim the entire 90 lakh rupees, Sarita and Anoop hatched a cruel plan. They decided to hire a contract killer to murder Pappachan.

Hiring a Hitman

Sarita and Anoop hired a 44-year-old contract killer named Animon for the job. On May 26, as Pappachan was riding his bicycle near Ashram Ground in Kollam, a car deliberately hit him from behind. The driver fled the scene, and Pappachan died on the way to the hospital.

Police Investigation

The police suspected foul play after reviewing CCTV footage, which showed that the car hit Pappachan’s bicycle intentionally. When Pappachan’s family learned about this, they filed a complaint, prompting a deeper investigation.

The police used technology to track down the suspects. They discovered that Anoop was sharing Pappachan’s location with Animon via phone and that his friend Maheen was following Pappachan on a bike. Animon used a car belonging to Haseef Ali for the crime.

Arrests Made

After thorough questioning of Anoop and Maheen, the police arrested all five suspects, including Sarita, who masterminded the plot. They were charged under Sections 103 (murder) and 61 (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and have been sent to jail.
