New Delhi: What started as a satirical social media movement has now transformed into a major on-ground protest in the national capital. Hundreds of students, parents, and young professionals gathered at Jantar Mantar on Saturday under the banner of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), demanding accountability for alleged irregularities in examinations and recruitment tests.
The protesters also called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, alleging failures in handling issues related to exams such as NEET, CBSE, CUET, and SSC recruitment tests.
From Social Media Campaign to Nationwide Protest
The Cockroach Janta Party began as an online movement but quickly gained traction among students and youth across the country. Over the past few weeks, discussions surrounding examination-related controversies have fueled support for the campaign, leading to its first large-scale public demonstration in Delhi.
Supporters arrived from different states, many wearing symbolic cockroach masks while carrying books, flowers, and copies of the Constitution. Organizers described the movement as a peaceful campaign focused on transparency, fairness, and accountability in the education and recruitment systems.
CJP Founder Abhijeet Dipke Addresses Supporters
Speaking at the protest site, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke criticized authorities for allegedly focusing on controlling online dissent rather than addressing concerns raised by students.
According to Dipke, the movement has spent the past month demanding action regarding examination-related issues. He claimed that attempts were made to suppress the campaign’s online presence but insisted that public support continues to grow.
Dipke, who recently returned from the United States to participate in the mobilization, urged protesters to remain peaceful and continue advocating for reforms through constitutional means.
Protesters Carry Flowers, Books and Constitution Copies
One of the most notable aspects of the demonstration was its symbolic nature. Many participants carried flowers and later offered them to police personnel as a gesture of peaceful engagement.
Students and young professionals were seen holding books and copies of the Constitution, while the now-recognizable cockroach masks became a symbol of the movement. School students attended alongside their parents, while college students and job aspirants formed a significant portion of the crowd.
Throughout the day, protesters raised slogans demanding greater transparency in examinations and recruitment processes.
Sonam Wangchuk Expresses Support
Social activist Sonam Wangchuk also expressed support for the movement and appealed to participants to maintain peace during the protest.
Organizers informed supporters that Wangchuk would join the gathering and reiterated the need for non-violent participation.
Heavy Security Arrangements Across Delhi
Authorities deployed extensive security measures ahead of the protest. More than 1,000 police personnel were stationed across New Delhi and other sensitive areas, while additional paramilitary forces were deployed to assist local law enforcement.
Security was also heightened at major transit points, including the airport and city border checkpoints. Multiple barricades were installed around Jantar Mantar, and senior police officials monitored the situation throughout the day.
As a precautionary measure, security outside the residence of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was also increased.
Political Support Begins to Emerge
The movement has started receiving support from several political figures. NCP (SP) leader Rohit Pawar said the large turnout reflected growing frustration among young people regarding examination controversies and employment-related concerns.
He stated that issues surrounding competitive examinations and recruitment processes have contributed to increasing dissatisfaction among students and job seekers.
A Movement Growing Beyond Social Media
Saturday’s protest marked a significant milestone for the Cockroach Janta Party. What began as an online satirical campaign has evolved into a visible youth-led movement capable of attracting large crowds in the national capital.
