On Tuesday, August 20, 2024, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that Assam Police caught three Bangladeshis attempting to illegally enter India and handed them over to their home country.

The three individuals are from the Rajshahi district in Bangladesh and had planned to go to Chennai for work. CM Sarma shared this information on the social media platform X, saying, “Assam Police caught three Bangladeshi nationals last night who had entered India from the Tripura side.”

The three men were identified as Mohammad Abu Shaid, Asadul Islam, and Mohammad Sarwar. CM Sarma mentioned that one of them was found with an Aadhaar card, indicating that he had entered India for the second time.

The Chief Minister further explained, “Their intention was to go to Chennai for labor work. They have been sent back to Bangladesh.” A senior police officer revealed that the trio was caught while trying to enter Assam’s Karimganj district through the interstate border with Tripura.

In a separate incident on Monday night, a Bangladeshi woman was detained in Dhubri and handed over to the authorities in her home country. According to a senior police officer, the woman claimed during interrogation that she had left Bangladesh on August 17 with 15 others and entered India the next day with the help of two smugglers on both sides of the border.

She said that she and four others, including her husband, had taken shelter in a house but later got separated, leading to her arrest by the police.
