Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh could be set for his first coaching role in the Indian Premier League, with reports suggesting that he is likely to join the Delhi Capitals support staff ahead of the IPL 2027 season.

According to media reports, Delhi Capitals are planning significant changes to their coaching setup as the JSW Group prepares to take charge of the franchise’s cricket operations for the next two-year cycle. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly is also expected to return to a key leadership role within the team’s management structure.

Major Changes Expected at Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals operate under a unique ownership model in which co-owners GMR Group and JSW Group manage the franchise in alternating two-year periods. After GMR oversaw the team’s operations during the 2025 and 2026 IPL seasons, JSW is scheduled to take control from IPL 2027 onward.

With the transition approaching, reports indicate that the franchise is considering a restructuring of its coaching and support staff following two disappointing campaigns.

A senior franchise official reportedly confirmed that Yuvraj Singh is expected to become part of the Delhi Capitals setup, although an official announcement is yet to be made.

Yuvraj Singh Tipped for Batting Coach Role

According to reports, Yuvraj could take over as Delhi Capitals’ batting coach. If appointed, it would mark the former World Cup winner’s first coaching assignment in the IPL.

Widely regarded as one of India’s greatest white-ball cricketers, Yuvraj played a crucial role in India’s victories at the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup and the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. His vast experience and understanding of the modern game could add significant value to the franchise’s young batting group.

Sourav Ganguly’s Return on the Cards

Reports also suggest that Sourav Ganguly is set to play an influential role once JSW resumes control of the franchise. Ganguly previously served as Director of Cricket for Delhi Capitals and was heavily involved in the team’s strategic planning and player development.

Earlier this year, Ganguly guided the franchise’s SA20 side, Pretoria Capitals, to the tournament final, further strengthening his credentials as a cricket administrator and mentor.

Recent IPL Results Trigger Review

Delhi Capitals have struggled to convert strong squads into playoff appearances over the past two seasons. Under captain Axar Patel, the franchise failed to qualify for the playoffs in both IPL 2025 and IPL 2026.

Despite featuring established stars such as KL Rahul, Mitchell Starc and Kuldeep Yadav, Delhi finished fifth in IPL 2025 after a promising start before slipping down the table in the latter half of the tournament.

The team’s performances remained inconsistent in IPL 2026, resulting in a sixth-place finish and increasing pressure on the existing coaching setup.

New Era for Delhi Capitals?

With JSW preparing to resume operational control and Sourav Ganguly likely to return to a prominent position, Delhi Capitals appear ready to begin a new chapter ahead of IPL 2027. The possible addition of Yuvraj Singh to the coaching staff could further strengthen the franchise’s efforts to return to playoff contention and build a more competitive squad for future seasons.
