Shyam Rajak Resigns: RJD Faces Big Setback

0

Shyam Rajak Resigns: Former minister Shyam Rajak resigned from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Thursday. He sent his resignation to RJD’s national president, Lalu Prasad Yadav. Shyam Rajak was the national general secretary of the party. In his resignation letter, he expressed his feelings poetically, writing, “I was not a chess player, so I was deceived. You were moving the pieces, while I was just maintaining relationships.”

Shyam Rajak’s Connection with Lalu Yadav

Shyam Rajak has been considered one of Lalu Yadav’s close allies. His resignation just a year before the assembly elections is seen as a significant blow to the RJD. Shyam Rajak has previously left the RJD to join the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], where he was made a minister by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. However, he later left JD(U) and rejoined RJD. He has also represented the Fullwari seat multiple times.

Speculation About JD(U) Return

In the 2020 assembly elections, Shyam Rajak was expected to receive a ticket from RJD for the Fullwari seat, but he did not. There were also hopes for him to become a member of the Legislative Council, but Lalu Yadav chose Munni Rajak instead. This was considered a major setback for Shyam Rajak. There is now speculation that he might return to JD(U) due to his dissatisfaction with not being considered for any position by RJD.

Mpox Virus: Signs, Prevention, and Diagnosis

0

Mpox Virus: The mpox virus, also known as monkeypox, has caused concern in the medical community. Although it hasn’t reached India yet, the government and health agencies are taking it seriously and are working on prevention. After a case of monkeypox was found in Pakistan, the Indian government has become more active. The World Health Organization has also issued a health alert about the virus. It is important for everyone to understand the symptoms and get tested if needed.

What Are the Symptoms?

Dr. Charudutt Arora explains that if someone gets infected with the mpox virus, they may experience severe body pain, muscle stiffness, and high fever with shivering. Common viral symptoms like cold, cough, and runny nose can also appear with mpox.

A specific symptom of mpox is swollen lymph nodes in the neck due to inflammation. Additionally, the person may develop rash-like spots on their body similar to smallpox. These spots usually start in the mouth and then spread across the body. They may be filled with fluid and can be painful.

According to Dr. Arora, rashes typically appear 7 to 10 days after the fever starts.

How to Identify Mpox Virus?

In the beginning, the symptoms of mpox can be similar to those of a common viral infection: cold, cough, body pain, and fever. This makes it hard to distinguish between a common virus and mpox. If a person with viral fever has traveled recently or has been in contact with someone who has monkeypox, the chance of mpox infection increases.

How to Prevent Mpox?

Dr. Arora advises that people with viral fever symptoms and recent travel history should isolate themselves immediately. Mpox has an incubation period of 5 to 21 days, during which the infection can spread. So, travelers should stay in isolation for about three weeks.

How is Mpox Diagnosed?

To diagnose mpox, doctors use clinical diagnosis methods and may test body fluids to confirm the infection.

On August 20, President Vladimir Putin visited a memorial in the city of Beslan. As he stood at the memorial, tears came to his eyes. He knelt before the memorial and vowed to take revenge.

The memorial honors the 333 people who died in a terrorist attack on a school in Beslan.

What Happened?

On September 1, 2004, a group of Chechen militants took over a school in Beslan. They held over 1,000 people hostage, including children. Despite the government’s efforts to free the hostages, they were unsuccessful. Russian forces later stormed the school, killing all 31 terrorists. However, 333 people, including 186 children, were killed in the attack.

Putin faced heavy criticism for his actions during this crisis. Women who lost their children in the attack formed a group called the “Mothers of Beslan” to seek justice. Putin visited Beslan to meet with these women.

Putin’s Promise and Response

Aneta Gadiyeva, a co-founder of the Mothers of Beslan group, lost her daughter in the attack. She reminded Putin of his promise to provide full information about the investigation, which has not been officially closed. Putin admitted he did not have details and advised the head of the Russian Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, to keep an eye on the case.

Gadiyeva also suggested to Putin that a law be passed to officially recognize the victims of the attacks, allowing them to receive government benefits. Putin said he would consider this proposal.

Income Tax: Who Needs a Clearance Certificate Before Traveling Abroad? CBDT Clarifies

0

Income Tax Clearance Certificate: The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has clarified recent confusion about the need for an Income Tax Clearance Certificate for Indian citizens traveling abroad. The CBDT said it is incorrect to claim that all citizens must get this certificate before leaving the country.

Not Required for Everyone: According to CBDT, not all citizens need to get an Income Tax Clearance Certificate before traveling abroad. The requirement applies only in certain cases. This rule has been in place since 2003 and remains unchanged despite amendments in the Finance (No. 2) Act 2024.

Applies to Those Involved in Financial Fraud: The CBDT stated that under Section 230(1A) of the Income Tax Act, certain individuals need to get a clearance certificate if they are involved in serious financial irregularities. If a person is needed in the country for investigations under the Income Tax or Wealth Tax Act and has tax demands issued against them, they must obtain the certificate before leaving.

For Tax Arrears Over ₹10 Lakhs: Additionally, if a person has direct tax arrears exceeding ₹10 lakhs and no authority has imposed restrictions, they must also get the certificate before traveling. Before asking for the certificate, reasons must be recorded, and approval must be obtained from the Principal Chief Commissioner or Chief Commissioner of Income Tax.

CBDT emphasized that the requirement for an Income Tax Clearance Certificate before traveling abroad applies only in specific cases, such as serious financial fraud or substantial tax arrears.

Why People Born After 1980 Are at Higher Risk of Monkeypox

0

Monkeypox cases are increasing, with the virus spreading from Africa to neighboring Pakistan and potentially to India. In response, the Indian government and health departments are taking action, preparing major hospitals for monkeypox patients.

Monkeypox is a contagious disease that spreads from one person to another. In some cases, it can be fatal. Medical experts are advising caution and prevention, especially for those born after 1980. Here’s why people born after 1980 might be at higher risk.

Monkeypox and smallpox viruses have similar symptoms. Monkeypox is a part of the same virus family as smallpox. Smallpox started spreading from Africa to humans many decades ago and later evolved into monkeypox. Smallpox and monkeypox often have similar effects. People who were vaccinated against smallpox might have lower risk of monkeypox.

Why Higher Risk for Those Born After 1980?

Between the 1960s and 1970s, there were many cases of smallpox worldwide. To protect against it, mass vaccination was carried out. As a result, smallpox cases decreased, and by 1980, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared smallpox eradicated and stopped the vaccination program. Only those born before 1980 received the smallpox vaccine. Therefore, people born after 1980, who did not receive this vaccine, may have a higher risk of monkeypox.

How Effective Is the Smallpox Vaccine?

Dr. Jugal Kishore, a well-known epidemiologist, explains that people born before 1980 received the smallpox vaccine, which may reduce their risk of monkeypox. However, this does not mean that vaccinated people cannot get monkeypox; they might experience less severe symptoms compared to those who were not vaccinated. Despite the effectiveness, people should still be cautious.

New Strain of Monkeypox

The current monkeypox strain has changed, increasing the risk. Extra precautions are needed, including enhanced monitoring at international airports. If someone has flu-like symptoms and sores on their body, they should be isolated as soon as possible. Monkeypox is not as contagious as COVID-19, but it can still be serious.

Can We Get the Smallpox Vaccine Now?

Dr. Kishore mentions that in 2022, when monkeypox cases appeared in the US and Europe, smallpox vaccines like Jynneos and ACAM2000 were used to control the outbreak. However, since smallpox was declared eradicated, these vaccines are no longer produced in India. They are only available in the US and Russia. Therefore, people need to stay cautious and protect themselves from monkeypox.
