In Ahmedabad, a woman has been arrested for killing her lover, who had been pressuring her for a physical relationship. The victim had been mentally tormenting the woman for a long time, leading her to commit the murder.

The woman, Sabana Khatoon, killed her lover Haidar Sha after being constantly subjected to his demands. On the morning of the incident, Haidar came to Sabana’s house in Danilimda, Avon Nagar, and pressured her for a physical relationship. During a confrontation, Sabana used a sickle to strike Haidar on the head and then attacked him with a blunt object, killing him.

The incident has shocked the local community. The Danilimda police arrived at the scene and arrested Sabana. They are now taking legal action on the matter.

Who Are the Lover and the Woman, and How Did They Know Each Other?

The police investigation revealed that Sabana Khatoon and Haidar Sha had been involved in an immoral relationship for the past one and a half years. Haidar was a relative of Sabana’s first husband. Sabana, originally from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, had married her first husband, who was Haidar’s brother-in-law. When Haidar’s wife fell ill, Sabana was brought to Ahmedabad to care for her. During this time, an affair developed between Haidar and Sabana.

After the incident, Sabana’s first husband divorced her. To keep Sabana close, Haidar set up another home in Ahmedabad. However, Sabana pressured Haidar to marry her. Since he was already married, Haidar refused. He later married another young man named Bilal ten months ago. Since then, Haidar repeatedly pressured Sabana for physical relations, leading her to kill him out of frustration.

Rajya Sabha By-Election: Kiram Chaudhary Files Nomination from Haryana, Receives Support from Rebel JJP Leaders

0

On Wednesday, BJP leader Kiram Chaudhary filed her nomination as the party candidate for the Rajya Sabha by-election from Haryana. Some rebel legislators from the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) also supported her candidacy. At the time of her nomination, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, state BJP president Mohan Lal Badohli, several party legislators, BJP’s co-incharge for the state Biplab Kumar Deb, and some rebel JJP members were present.

Wednesday was the last day for filing nominations for the Rajya Sabha by-election. Given the current situation, BJP has the numbers to win. The opposition is unlikely to field a candidate, making Chaudhary’s unopposed entry into the upper house almost certain. Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda had earlier stated that his party would not field a candidate due to a lack of sufficient numbers. After filing her nomination, Chaudhary thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, and other senior BJP leaders, as well as Haryana Chief Minister Saini.

Chaudhary, a former Haryana minister, joined the BJP in June with her daughter Shruti and supporters. She thanked both BJP and other party legislators for supporting her nomination. Despite spending 45 years in Congress, Chaudhary stated that she is now committed to serving BJP for the rest of her life.

Chaudhary, who is from the family of Chaudhary Bansi Lal, a former Haryana Chief Minister who was allied with BJP in the 1990s, expressed her admiration for BJP’s policies and dedication to the state and nation. She had resigned from the assembly just two months after leaving Congress, and BJP quickly nominated her for the by-election.

The by-election for the Rajya Sabha seat in Haryana became necessary after Congress leader Deepender Singh Hooda won the Rohtak Lok Sabha seat. Elections for 12 Rajya Sabha seats across nine states will take place on September 3. Nomination papers will be examined on August 22, and candidates can withdraw their nominations by August 27. If needed, voting will occur at the Haryana Assembly Secretariat on September 3 from 9 AM to 4 PM. After Chaudhary’s resignation, the 90-member Haryana Assembly consists of 41 BJP members, 28 Congress members, 10 JJP members, five independent legislators, one member each from INLD and Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP), and four vacant seats.

Violence Erupts Over Badlapur Incident: MVA Calls for Maharashtra Bandh on August 24

0

The Badlapur incident has sparked significant unrest. The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has announced a statewide bandh (shutdown) in Maharashtra on August 24. This decision comes in response to rising crimes against women and rape incidents, and perceived insensitivity from the government.

In Thane district’s Badlapur, there was outrage over the sexual assault of two 4-year-old girls. Angry residents protested vigorously in Badlapur, leading to a police case being filed against the protesters at the Badlapur railway station.

The political response has intensified. Supriya Sule, a leader from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Sharad Pawar, criticized the Maharashtra government and demanded the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also handles the Home Ministry. Sule accused the government, led by Eknath Shinde, of being negligent about women’s safety. She claimed that the government is more focused on splitting parties than addressing public concerns.

Sule argued that if immediate action had been taken by the Education Minister after the incident in the school, there would have been no need for protests. She also questioned what happened to the Shakti law, which was previously introduced to protect women.

Protests erupted in Badlapur on Tuesday as angry parents, local residents, and others blocked railway tracks and vandalized the school where the assault occurred. They demanded strict punishment for the accused, who was arrested on August 17.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said on Tuesday that he has instructed the police to file a case of attempted rape against the accused arrested in the Badlapur school sexual harassment case. He also mentioned that the case will be fast-tracked with the appointment of a special public prosecutor.

The Chief Minister said, “I have spoken to the Thane Police Commissioner. The accused has been arrested. I have asked for the case to be expedited and for charges of attempted rape and under the POCSO Act to be filed.”

Hundreds of parents of children studying at the Badlapur school have been protesting at the railway station since Tuesday morning. They are demanding strict action against the accused and condemning the incident. The protest has disrupted suburban train services.

The Chief Minister has appealed to parents to remain calm. Thane’s District Guardian Minister Shambhuraj Desai described the incident as unfortunate. He said he has asked the Thane District Collector to investigate the matter.

Desai added, “There will be two investigations: one by the education department and another by the regional police deputy commissioner. This will help determine why there was a delay in filing the case as alleged by the parents.”

School Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar stated that no action was taken for 12 hours after the parents filed a complaint with the police, which led to the transfer of a police officer. He also mentioned that a notice has been issued to the school, and the principal and a class teacher have been suspended.

Kesarkar said that he has ordered the formation of Vishaka Committees in schools. A school employee has been arrested for allegedly abusing two young girls in the school’s kindergarten. According to the complaint, the employee misbehaved with the girls in the school toilet.

The girls informed their parents that the employee touched them inappropriately, leading to a complaint and the subsequent arrest of the accused.

Inflation Rates
Regarding inflation, Das stated, “We never said inflation would fall below 4%. Our goal is to stay close to 4%. We need to be patient and wait for future data.”

Price Stability and Economic Growth
Das emphasized the need for price stability in the economy, saying, “Price stability gives consumers confidence and boosts investor trust. We also need to maintain financial stability as a regulator.”

0

Rahul Gandhi’s Response
On August 20, 2024, Rahul Gandhi, the MP from Raebareli, was visiting his constituency where a Dalit youth had been murdered. During his visit, he met with the victim’s family. When asked about the Kolkata rape-murder case, Rahul Gandhi ignored the question and said he did not want to distract from the Dalit murder case.

BJP’s Reaction
The BJP criticized Rahul Gandhi for not addressing the Kolkata case, which has sparked nationwide outrage and has been taken up by the Supreme Court. BJP asked if the Supreme Court was also involved in distracting from the issue.

Rahul Gandhi’s Statement
Regarding the Kolkata case, Rahul Gandhi said, “I don’t want to divert attention by discussing the Kolkata issue here. I’ve already commented on it, but I want to focus on the current issue.”

He also criticized the media, saying, “I know you don’t want to focus on this issue and want to distract from it because you don’t want to discuss Dalit issues. I am here to address and protect Dalit concerns, so I won’t allow any distractions.”

BJP’s Counterattack
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla responded, saying, “It’s shocking that Rahul Gandhi says discussing the Kolkata case is a distraction. This issue has shaken the nation’s conscience. How can he call it a distraction? Is the Supreme Court also distracting from the issue?”

Poonawalla added, “Rahul Gandhi travels to Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh but avoids Bengal, where it is crucial to defend the Constitution. He doesn’t speak against TMC, which is part of the Opposition alliance. His attitude disrespects the women protesting, the victim’s family, and the victim herself. He should apologize.”

RBI Governor’s Statement on Inflation: Why People Spend 50% of Their Income on Food

0

RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das made an important statement regarding inflation. He said that it is not fair to say that inflation has decreased by excluding the prices of vegetables and food items from the Consumer Price Index (CPI). He emphasized that we need to consider the perspective of the common people who have to spend 50% of their income on food.

Half of the Income Spent on Food
In an interview with NDTV, Governor Das explained that food inflation is high, and core inflation may be low, but it’s not appropriate to claim that inflation has decreased. He pointed out that people might wonder how the government and RBI are saying inflation is down when they have to spend so much of their salary on food. Das mentioned that food items are a crucial component of the headline inflation target. In our consumption basket, food inflation accounts for 46%. People are spending nearly 50% of their income on food.

Waiting for a Cut in Policy Rates
Regarding the reduction in policy rates (interest rates), the RBI Governor said that any cut would depend on future data. He noted that inflation is coming down, and the RBI has set a target of 4.5% inflation for this year. Das mentioned that over the next six months, they will study the data closely. Their focus is on reducing inflation to around 4% and keeping it there for the long term. He emphasized the need for patience.

Changes in the Retail Inflation Rate
The government has formed a panel under the Ministry of Statistics to work on new retail inflation data. It is expected that the weightage of food items in the new retail inflation rate might be reduced to prevent a sharp rise in overall inflation due to spikes in food prices. Currently, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) basket gives about 50% weightage to the food and beverage category. The CPI is currently based on the fiscal year 2011-12. Recently, Chief Economic Advisor V. Anantha Nageswaran suggested that food items should not be included in the RBI’s inflation target.
