Supreme Court Orders Removal of Identity of Kolkata Woman Doctor in Rape-Murder Case

0

The Supreme Court of India has ordered that the identity of the woman doctor, who was a victim of rape and murder in Kolkata, be removed from all platforms. The court directed the central government to ensure that the name, photo, and videos of the woman doctor are taken down from all social media and electronic media platforms. This order came after a petition was filed by two lawyers from West Bengal.

The bench, led by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, stated that revealing the identity of a rape victim is a violation of her dignity and also goes against the Supreme Court’s 2019 ruling. The court also mentioned that Section 73 of the Indian Penal Code prohibits the disclosure of such identities.

SC: Identity of Rape Victim Cannot Be Disclosed

During the hearing, the Supreme Court emphasized that revealing the identity of a rape victim in media is against the established legal guidelines. The court reiterated that under no circumstances can the identity of a rape victim be disclosed.

SC Criticizes West Bengal Government

Earlier, the Supreme Court had taken suo moto (on its own) cognizance of the case. The court criticized the West Bengal government for the incident and highlighted the need for better security and facilities for doctors and medical staff. The court formed a 14-member task force to develop a national protocol for the safety of medical professionals. This task force is required to submit an interim report within three weeks and a final report within two months.

Why MRI Machines Are Always Kept On and Only Turned Off in Emergencies

0

When you’re unwell, doctors sometimes recommend getting an MRI scan. But have you ever wondered why MRI machines in hospitals or diagnostic centers are always on? Why aren’t MRI machines turned off? Today, we will answer this important question.

Companies that make MRI machines install not just one, but two large superconducting magnets in them. These superconducting magnets work properly only when they are kept cool. So, how are these magnets kept cool?

To keep the MRI machine cool, companies use liquid helium. This liquid helium is poured into the machine to cool it down. If, for some reason, the machine is suddenly turned off, the magnets inside start to heat up. As the magnets get hotter, the liquid helium that keeps the machine cool begins to evaporate and turn into gas.

You can imagine what would happen if the liquid helium gas evaporates. If the machine gets too hot, there’s a high chance that the expensive MRI machine could get damaged. Repairing such a machine can cost a lot of money.

This is why MRI machines are only turned off during maintenance or in an emergency. Apart from these situations, the machine is never switched off.

Recently, in the first match of the Buchi Babu Tournament, Ishan Kishan scored a brilliant century, leading his team to victory. After this performance, the big question is when will Ishan return to Team India? Despite his excellent innings, a former Pakistan cricketer believes that Ishan might not return to Team India.

Ishan Kishan is back in the spotlight, and this time, it’s because of his explosive batting. The left-handed batsman recently helped Jharkhand win in the Buchi Babu Tournament. Ishan scored a fantastic century against Madhya Pradesh, making his team the champion.

After this impressive innings, there are speculations that Ishan might soon make a comeback to Team India. However, former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali thinks that it will be difficult for Ishan to return to the Indian team.

Basit Ali, on his YouTube channel, claimed that it is almost impossible for Ishan to make a comeback to Team India. Basit said, “Ishan Kishan should now focus only on IPL because he might not return to Team India until the Australia series. It will be tough for him to make a comeback even before the Champions Trophy.”

Ishan Kishan has been out of Team India since last year’s South Africa tour. He left the tour midway and hasn’t returned to the Indian team since.

Ishan was advised to play first-class cricket, and now he is playing in the Buchi Babu Tournament. It is believed that he will also lead Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy. Ishan last played a Ranji Trophy match in 2022.

In the race for the U.S. presidency, Elon Musk, the owner of social media platform ‘X’, has often shown support for Republican candidate and former President Donald Trump. Now, this support seems to go both ways. Donald Trump has also shown admiration for Elon Musk. According to Reuters, Trump announced that if he wins the upcoming election in November, he would give Elon Musk a role in his Cabinet or make him an advisor in the White House.

Trump’s statement came shortly after Elon Musk interviewed him. According to the Washington Post, Musk previously mentioned that he supported Joe Biden in the 2020 election. Since an attack at one of Trump’s rallies, Musk has been supporting Trump. Shortly after the attack, Musk posted on social media, saying, “I support Trump and pray for his speedy recovery.”

Good News for Tesla

Trump told Reuters that while he is not generally in favor of tax breaks and credits, he clarified that he might reduce the $7,500 electric vehicle tax credit, which Biden had increased. He said, “I am a big fan of gasoline-powered cars, as well as hybrid cars, and everything that comes with them.” However, Trump also expressed his appreciation for electric vehicles. If Trump comes to power, it could bring good news for Elon Musk’s electric car manufacturing company, Tesla.

Will Musk Accept the Offer?

Earlier this year, in a post on social media platform X, Musk denied that he had discussed becoming a White House advisor with Trump. He said that there had been no talks about a role for him in Trump’s administration. However, Trump hinted that he might be ready to include Musk in his administration during their live chat on Twitter last week.

Ajinkya Rahane, Peter Handscomb, and Liam Trevaskis all scored half-centuries to help Leicester beat Hampshire by three wickets in a thrilling finish. With this win, the defending champions Leicester have reached the semi-finals of the Metro Bank One-Day Cup, just two steps away from defending their title.

Hampshire, batting first after losing the toss, set a challenging target of 290 runs from 50 overs, thanks to a brilliant century from captain Nick Gubbins and a half-century from Liam Dawson. Young Dominic Kelly also contributed with a quick 39 off 20 balls. For Leicester, Tom Scriven took three wickets, and Chris Wright grabbed two, keeping Hampshire below 300 runs.

In response, Leicester struggled early, losing three wickets for just 30 runs. However, Rahane and Handscomb’s century partnership, the third of the tournament for them, boosted the team’s confidence. Their partnership of 128 runs was broken by John Turner, who had already taken three wickets at the start of the innings.

Leicester’s innings faltered again, and by the 35th over, they were six wickets down for 188 runs. With 100 runs needed from the last 15 overs and only four wickets remaining, Trevaskis and Ben Cox added 94 runs in 82 balls to bring their team close to victory.

With nine runs needed from the last two overs, Cox, who had scored 45 off 50 balls, was out on the last ball of the 48th over. Leicester managed to chase down the target with just one ball remaining. On Sunday, Leicester will face Somerset in the first semi-final.

The formation of parliamentary committees has been completed, and this time, opposition parties, including Congress, have been given appropriate positions. Congress has long complained about not being given enough importance in these committees. However, the results of the recent Lok Sabha elections have brought about significant changes, which are also visible in the parliamentary committees. The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) is now chaired by Congress.

On Friday, the Lok Sabha Secretariat released a bulletin announcing the formation of the parliamentary committees. The term for all three main committees is one year, and they include members from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, selected by both houses. In addition, there are other standing committees related to various central ministries and departments.

Most of the committee chairmanships have gone to the BJP. The only exception is the PAC, which is chaired by Congress. Senior Congress leader K.C. Venugopal has been appointed as the PAC chairman.

The committee for the welfare of backward classes will be chaired by BJP MP Ganesh Singh. The Public Undertakings Committee will be chaired by BJP MP Baijayant Panda. The committee for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes will be chaired by BJP MP Faggan Singh Kulaste.
